It's one layer of hard, brittle steel sandwiched between two layers of relatively soft, flexible steel. The net effect is a knife that takes and holds an outstanding edge, but is also tough enough not to break when you start treating it rough. The Kraton handle is excellent, providing cushioning and a secure grip in any conditions.The Concealex sheath holds the knife extremely securely. It is lightweight, tough, and versatile. I typically just slip the knife in until I hit some resistance and then secure it with the strap. Pushing it further down locks it in place, but also make it harder to draw with one hand. Seems like you always need your knife when you're holding a big fish or somesuch, and I like being able to draw one-handed.The blade is heavy and stout.
